  • Mõned teemad tänaseks päevaks:

    - Schering-Plough (SGP) tulid oodatust allpool. Peamiseks põhjuseks võimalikud juriidilised kulud, mille jaoks firma $350 mln (24 senti aktsia kohta) reservi arvestas. Ilma selleta oleks firma teeninud 6 senti kasumit aktsia vs 10 senti konsensust. Teiseks põhjuseks ikka veel nõrgenev Introni (hep c) müük, kuna konkurent Roche on agressiivselt peale tulemas. Firma juht Fred Hassan lubas investoritele pressiteates, et 2005. aasta peaks tooma juba paremad ajad. Kuidas turg uudiseid vastu võtab? Tõenäoliselt on esimeseks reaktsiooniks avanemine allpool eilset sulgemishinda (indikatsioonid $15.5 kandis). Lähemalt SGP kohta varsti LHV Pro all.

Hetkel omab mees siiski ligemale 10 mln aktiat.

    - Amazoni (AMZN) tulemused tulid analüütikute konsensusega kooskõlas. Täna hommikul aga alandavad Sounview analüütikud aktsiate reitingu Neutraalse peale varasema Outperform pealt. Hinnasihiks $60.

Can it get any better?

    - Tenet Healthcare (THC) teatas, et tulemused sellel aastal tulevad "märkimisväärselt allpool ootusi". Põhjuseks halvad laenud. Aktsiad on eelturul uudise peale ligemale 15% miinuses. Minu jaoks tundub see ühekordse halva uudisena, kuid püüan kiiresti kui võimalik asjaga lähemalt tuvuda.

    - Gary B. Smith:

    - Revshark:

A potent combination has set this market up for a potential explosive move higher into year-end.

The economy picked up steam in the third quarter. I don't think anyone can dispute that business got much better across most sectors, particularly technology and telecom. Granted, demand and spending had fallen to a remarkably small base after the popping of the dot-bomb and tele-con bubbles left the entire economy on the verge of collapse. But growth is back.

The market doesn't always move higher with a booming economy, and it doesn't always drop with a contracting economy. But considering how far so many stocks had fallen and the historically low valuations on many different metrics, along with some the other forces at work I'll mention later, it makes sense that it has rallied this time.

The fact is that the short-sellers have gotten anihilated this year after a three-year run. They printed money as the bubbles popped and the economy kept sputtering. But, as I've written many times, I really know very few who have covered -- even though things have gotten better.

In fact, rather than seeing much covering, I know plenty of longs who have turned short. That's a lot of gunpowder for our combustion. Remember that if the short-sellers have already sold their shares, they have to go in and buy them back at some point.

Realize too the power that the shorts who cover and then go long bring to the table. In essence, such moves have double (or even quadruple if they're margined) the effect of outright purchases.

And how about that underperformance anxiety that so many hedge funds, mutual funds and even individuals are feeling? There's plenty of money left on the sidelines that is trickling into the market. It's quite likely that through year-end, individuals will pour money into long funds, hedges will get long with power and mutual funds will just keep on keeping on with their buying frenzy.

Several weeks ago, I began finding it very hard to fight these trends, especially as so much of my work is fundamentally based, and it has become increasingly apparent that business was really picking up. As you know, I began to stop myself out of most of my broader index shorts as the market was simply telling me I was wrong.

As it is, I've begun to scale back into some index shorts, simply because I can hardly find any compelling short stories out there right now, but I do want to keep some short exposure. So I nibble puts on the SMH (SMH:Amex) and short a little QQQ (QQQ:Amex). I'm also still short Redback (RBAK:Nasdaq) and long RBAK bonds on an increasingly even ratio, as RBAK continues to fall.

I'm still short some wireless component and handset stocks, although I've covered so much of the positions that they're almost just holding a place on my sheets at this point.

Meanwhile, I continue to find long-side stories that I like for both trades, such as AT&T Wireless (AWE:NYSE), and investments, such as Sycamore (SCMR:Nasdaq).

My single biggest concern in this thesis: Sure seems like it's becoming the consensus among many pundits. Even The Wall Street Journal highlights the plight of the short-seller today, and they've marked the end of the trend more than once, you know.

net short smh, qqq; short rbak; long rbak bonds; net long awe; long scmr

LHV investorite uks lemmikuid E-Loan (EELN), mis samuti homme tulemused avaldab, on ilmselt positiivsete uudiste ootuses juba tana vaikest tousu alustanud.

  • CEE
Tuupilised pankuriharrad:(
