Last week, Drake scored another true hit on the Hot 100 after lending his talents to newcomer Summer Walker’s breakout tune “Girls Need Love.” The reworked track vaulted into the top 40, settling at No. 37, and this week, though this week it slides back to No. 52. Now that has entered one of the most important regions on the all-encompassing singles chart, Drake has inched closer to accomplishing something no artist in history has managed, and at this point, it’s only a matter of time before he does so.

According to Billboard, “Girls Need Love” is Drake’s ninety-fifth entry inside the Hot 100’s top 40. The Canadian hip-hop musician is already in first place when it comes to the most such hits in history, and it looks like at some point in 2019, he’ll become the first artist to score at least 100 top 40 hits on the Hot 100.

Between featured roles on songs led by other artists and his own unceasing output, Drake always has something on the charts, and he averages just under 20 appearances per year, and there’s no reason to believe he will slow down at all in 2019. In fact, it’s been just under a year since his last full-length Scorpion was unleashed, and he’s surely been hard at work on whatever his next project will be. When it drops, he will easily blow past triple-digit Hot 100 top 40 hits...if he doesn’t manage it before then.

Drake is quickly putting distance between himself and both Lil Wayne and Elvis Presley, who are tied for second place on the list of artists with the most top 40 hits with 81 apiece. While Wayne will undoubtedly continue to rack up more placements, it’s tough to imagine Presley doing so...though it is worth mentioning that some of his most popular tunes rose and fell before the Hot 100 even existed, so his true count could, and probably should, be higher.

When looking at all Hot 100 hits, Drake is even closer to reaching the 200 mark than he is to scoring his hundredth top 40, and both are going to happen any frame now. When he does so, he’ll become the first solo act to reach 200 appearances, and he’ll crawl closer to matching the all-time record of 207, which is held by the cast of the TV show Glee.
