JP Morgan upgrades Johnson and Johnson (JNJ $60.10) to Overweight from Neutral saying they believe JNJ can deliver 10% earnings growth in 2006, 2007, and 2008. The firm also thinks the mkt has placed too much emphasis on the GDT transaction, saying investors should not forget that JNJ generates more than $10 bln annually in free cash flow and already sits on more than $13 bln in net cash
Prudential initiates Viacom (VIA.B 32.60) with a Neutral and $42 tgt, as they believe valuation looks reasonable, 2006 Paramount estimates will need to be adjusted downward and there is more downside risk than upside potential in achieving double-digit revenue growth at the cable networks
Merrill Lynch downgrades JetBlue (JBLU 15.38) to Neutral
JP Morgan downgrades Canadian Pacific (CP 41.95) to Underweight from Neutral, as their expectation of slowing Canadian coal and potash volumes, along with a more limited portion of its business available to reprice in 2006, leads firm to conclude that CP may lose EPS momentum in 2006
Google (GOOG) tgt upped to $600 at Piper Jaffray
Piper Jaffray raises their GOOG tgt to $600 from $445, saying GOOG is their Top Pick 2006 in the large-cap category. They expect the global Search market to grow by 41% in 2006 and 31% in 2007. They also expect Google to continue to gain some market share as the Google brand is strengthening. Firm thinks new initiatives, in particular Google's ad network and Google Base, to generate meaningful revenues by the end of '06
Thomas Weisel raises ests on Sandisk (SNDK) following recent checks. Firm raises Q4 rev/EPS to $734mn/0.67 from $718.4mn/0.60 vs consensus of $719mn/0.60. Firm raises FY06 ests to $3.20bn/2.40 from $3.04bn/2.25 (consensus $3.00bn/2.27). Firm is optimistic that its new ests may prove conservative, and may be revised higher when the co reports Q4 results. Firm's checks indicate that Sandisk enjoyed healthy sell-through across its product line in Q4. Firm sees multiple potential positive near-term catalysts ahead. Firm notes that Sandisk will have a press conference on Thurs where it is likely they will make new product announcements. Also, MacWorld Expo (Jan 9-13) could prove to be a positive for the NAND market with possible new product introductions from Apple. Firm also says a Sony/Samsung supply agreement would be a potential positive for Sandisk.
Piper Jaffray highlights Aeropostale (ARO) as one of its top picks for 2006 as the firm believes the co had a stronger-than-anticipated Holiday season and is on the cusp of a turnaround as we head into the new fiscal year. Firm says a very effective promotional strategy is clearing through winter merchandise, allowing the co to enter spring with on-plan margins and a much-improved inventory position. Firm raises its tgt to $34 from $26. With the stock trading at less than 16x FY07 EPS, firm says now is a good time to get into the stock, ahead of what it believes is a pending recovery. Firm expects sales and margin trends to begin improving materially in Q2 (Jul).
Oppenheimer upgrades Genesis Microchip (GNSS) to Buy from Neutral with a $24 tgt as they believe most of its negatives have already played out. They believe the monitor supply could alleviate by the February 2006 time frame as ODMs and OEMs reallocate capacity from monitors into TVs. They also believe GNSS provides an opportunity to add to positions at discount valuations ahead of potential positive catalysts such as CES in Las Vegas and with the March quarter representing a trough in revenues
