  • Turu praegust situatsiooni, mil meeleolud natukene on muutumas - tähelepanu on liikunud rohkem intressidele, likviidsusele, riskidele ning kasvule - kommenteerib minu arvates päris hästi Cramer. Eilne langus ei olnud kogu selle tõusu juures sugugi märkimisväärne ning edasise tõusu jätkumiseks peame jõudma Crameri sõnul tunduvalt suurema hirmu tasemeni. Kõlab väga loogiliselt.

I like a selloff that breeds a level of fear that causes panic, which then shakes out all of the weak holders and lets those with guts stay in the game and prosper. But when the market goes down 150 points and then rallies, it creates a sense of comfort, a false sense, that just doesn't get you to where you have terra firma.

My take is this: When we have the close that makes you puke, we will have something investible. The faux strength of a bounce makes me want to sell whatever I picked up on the day and start over tomorrow in the same downward fashion that continues when the washout doesn't occur.

Eile kauples Monster Worldwide Inc (MNST) järelturul ca 44.5 tasemel ehk pea 3% madalamal sulgumisest. Põhjuseks asjaolu, et juhtkonnas tehakse muudatusi. Firma teatas, et Timothy Yates võtab firmas sisse CFO positsiooni ja vahetab välja senise juhi Lanny Bakeri. Firma kannab vahetuse tõttu $3 miljoni ulatuses kulusid teises kvartalis ning pressiteates öeldakse, et vahetusega lihtsustatakseja ühildatakse ettevõtte tegevust globaalselt.

Citigroup kommenteerib situatsiooni natuke teises valguses.

Citi toob välja ka Monster Worldwide'i Careers North America ärisegmendi stabiliseerumise. Viimase 3-4 kvartali jooksul on see äri näidanud negatiivset kasvu (56% käibest).

 After-market Sell Off Presents Opportunity — We reit. our Buy and view the 2-3% after-market correction as a buying oppty. We continue to view MNST as amajor beneficiary of the secular shift in recruiting spending online given itsmarket leadership, global footprint, and material European margin expansionoppty. Plus MNST’s growing net cash position should allow increased buybacks

  • USA futuurid on andnud hommikuse plussi käest. Briefingu kommentaar: Equity futures give up gains and trade to morning lows as ten-year yield moves above psychologically important 5% level
  • Viimastel aegadel on paljude turuosaliste tähelepanu pöördumas intressikeskkonnale. Seda nii USAs kui ka mujal maailmas. Deutsche Bank avaldas eile analüüsi, kus tuuakse välja, et nende hinnangul on võlakirjade tulumäära kasvu taga üle ootuste paremad kasvunumbrid. Samal ajal on inflatsiooniootus langenud (viimase leidmisel tuginetakse inflatsiooni suhtes indekseeritud võlakirjadele).

Esiteks tõstab see loomulikult importkauppade nagu nafta hinda kuid vast veel olulisemgi on praeguses maailma intressikeskkonnas (ECB eile tõstmine; ootus, et Jaapani keskpank jätab nädala pärast toimuval nõupidamisel intressid muutmata ja tõstab neid aasta neljandas kvartalis 0,75%le; Kanada Keskpanga eelmise nädala vihje peatse intressitõstmise kohta; Suurbritannia kespanga oodatav peadne intressitõstmine) dollari konkurentsivõime.  Selleks, et dollari konkurentsivõimet taastada, peab FED mitte ainult hoiduma intresside langetamisest vaid neid hoopis tõstma.

  • Stiffy kommentaar MNST potentsiaalse käekäigu kohta on päris huvitav.

Stifel notes that yesterday MNST announced several executive realignments, including the appointment of Timothy T. Yates as CFO. Since the departure of a CFO is usually a concern for investors, firm would normally expect that MNST could experience some near-term price pressure. In this instance, however firm believes the stock could react positively as investors view the appointment of Yates as further evidence that MNST's mgmt will consider strategic alternatives, including a sale of the co. Recall that Symbol Technologies was sold to MOT under Messrs. Ianuzzi's and Yates' watch.

"A wise person does at once, what a fool does at last. Both do the same thing; only at different times."

    -- John Dalberg Acton

Market participants spend a huge amount of time and effort trying to time the twists and turns in the market. The idea of riding an upswing and then selling out at the exact tops is so appealing that practically no one can resist trying to do it.

The problem with the "top calling" game is that there is no way to do it systematically. If you get it right it is much more likely a function of luck rather than skill. That doesn't stop market players from trying. They keep on trying and the consequence of that action is that they tend to be too early in anticipating a market top. After all, you can't sell at the exact top after the fact. If the market was higher a few days ago and you sell today, then you can't boast that you nailed the exact top.

So we end up with serial top callers. Over and over they will try to predict that the big turn is coming but when they get it wrong they will just keep on trying until eventually they can claim victory. Of course, they will have cost themselves tremendously while playing this game but the satisfaction they hope to get when they are eventually right keeps them going.

For most market players the better approach is to not focus on exact turning points. Even when they do occur the market seldom goes straight down. Turning points take time to play out and if you aren't precise in timing them it doesn't matter that much. There will be bounces and volatility that will give the chance to reposition.

After the last two days of weakness the question for us to consider is whether a major turning point is taking place. We don't have to decide that right now but we should consider the question and be aware of what we want to look for.

From a technical standpoint the main thing we want to consider is how the market acts on a bounce following two days of weakness. Typically, throughout this rally, a bounce has been the signal for buyers to pile back in the market because we just go straight back up. Once a bounce starts they simply have not tended to fail. That is what makes an uptrend and we have had a good one for a while now.

The tip-off that we need to increase our caution and start thinking about the possibility that a top has formed is when the bounces start failing. When market players start thinking about bounces as a chance to gracefully exit positions rather than adding to them, then we will know that the mood is changing.

After the last two days of selling, a bounce today is going to be a very good test of the health of this market. Do the bulls rush in and rebuild positions? Do the bears look to remount shorts into strength or are they squeezed yet again?

One thing that has been particularly troubling the last few days is that breadth has been very poor. A few key stocks like GOOG and AAPL have offset some of the damage to the indices but clearly the selling has been broad-based. That could reverse but it tells us that the selling was general and systematic and perhaps indicative of a change in mood.

Watch for a bounce but make sure you contemplate its character. When the turn in the market comes, it is the bounces that will tell the story.

We have a mixed start to the day. Europe rolled back into the red after an early bounce and Asian stocks are mixed. Retail will be the focus today as same-store sales reports flow in. The group should give us a good indication of the market mood.
  • Aasia turud täna kirjud. Tugevad olid Hiina(Shanghai A +3.05%), Taiwan ja Lõuna-Korea (Kosdaq +1.57%). Okeaaniast on püsiva järjekindlusega päev otsa allapoole vajunud Uus-Meremaa(-1.23%), kus intressimäärade tõstmine üllatas turuosalisi. USA on alustamas päeva ca -0.3%lise langusega.

    Ülespoole avanevad:

  • Lisasin Pro alla Citigroupi päris huvitava ja vastaka arvamuse Korea turu kohta. Põhjuseks Pro idee Gmarketi (GMKT) tegutsemine just Lõuna-Korea turul ning sealse aktsiaturu atraktiivsus võib osutuda meie investeerimisteesi väljamängimiseks "lisaboonuseks."

  • Kas keegi oskab selgitada, miks täna QID pole kahekordse erinevusega Nasdaq-ist.
