Maybe individuals should start to co-opt some of these corporate accounting techniques. Next time you apply for a bank loan, exclude investment losses as an extraordinary item; the interest cost of a mortgage doesn't have to go on a "proforma". And did you buy a car, or furniture, or pay for a child's education? These are all non-operating expenses, to be buried in a "special charge". Maybe we have more income than we thought . . . -
