Bogus phone message used to pump up stocks - NY Post, WSJ and Washington Post
Newspapers report that a creative new stock scam is sweeping the country, with a sugary-sweet woman's voice leaving "wrong number" messages on answering machines and voicemails touting worthless stocks. The SEC issued a warning yesterday, explaining the heist. A woman leaves an intimate sounding message for "Tracy," her girlfriend, saying the price of a certain small, thinly traded stock is about to take off. The SEC has received hundreds of complaints from across the country about the so-called wrong number calls. -
Target of bogus phone message responds
Maui General Store (OTCBB: MAUG) president Richard Miller announced that he has been informed that unknown individuals are engaging in a telephone voice mail scheme encouraging speculative investment in Maui General Store. Speculative telephone schemes and other unethical marketing ploys are not necessary for the continued growth of Maui General Store, nor are they sanctioned or endorsed by the Company. Mr. Miller strongly condemns such practices and encourages all investors to make decisions in a reasonable and prudent manner. -

Kuigi suuremad indeksid on hommikul saavutatud plussi suutnud hoida, siis pooljuhid on veel punases. Siiski lisab positiivsust eile pärast turgude sulgemist II kvartali tulemused avaldanud Marvell Technology Group (MRVL), kes suutis meeldivalt üllatada (EPS tuli $0,2 oodatud $0,19 asemel). Käive kasvas eelmise aastaga võrreldes 54% $297,2 miljonile. Firma pakub pooljuhte salvestus- ja kommunikatsiooni-lahendustesse.

Pooljuhte rõhub täna eile õhtul avaldatud Põhja-Ameerika semi equipmendi tootjate juuli book-to-bill näitaja, mis langes juba kolmandat kuud järjest ning jõudis 1,05 tasemele. Eelmiste kuude andmed on alljärgnevas tabelis.
Kuu billings $miljonit bookings $miljonit book-to-bill ratio Mai 2004 1412,7 1559,6 1,10 Juuni 2004 1503,4 1609,1 1,07 Juuli 2004 1538,3 1610,1 1,05 Nagu näha, siis juuniga võrreldes on tellimuste kasv peaaegu olematu. Ühtlasi on see vesi taas nende veskile, kelle arvates seekordne pooljuhtide tsükkel on oma tipu saavutanud ning edaspidi hakkame tellimuste osas kahanevaid numbreid nägema. Eelmise aastaga võrreldes on aga näitaja siiski üle kahe korra suurem.
SOX hetkel veel 0,2% miinuses, kuigi viimasel tunnil on pigem kosumismärke näidatud.
