Filling in additional paperwork may often seem like an excessive burden, but sometimes it can also involve some benefits, like the lower tax rate in the case of W-8BEN.

The non-resident’s residency form W-8BEN (W-8BEN-E for companies) of the US Internal Revenue Service is a prerequisite for trading US securities.

The residency form needs to be updated every three years or when the information supplied by the client in the form changes. We have prepared user-friendly guidelines for
filling in the form and, if necessary, our specialists are also ready to help. Unfortunately, LHV Pank is not able to fill in the residency form for our client and the client is responsible for filling it in correctly.

In order to get a better income tax rate on dividends from US securities, do the following.

1)     When you want to purchase US securities as aprivate person:

  1. Go to LHV internet bank INFORMATION AND SETTINGS>Agreements and fill in W-8BEN electronic form (guidelines).

2) When you want to purchase US securities as a company:

  1. Download the residency form W-8BEN-E and fill it in according to the guidelines.
  2. It is important that you write your name and surname in capital letters and sign the form by hand.
  3. Send the scanned form or a clear photo taken with your phone to the e-mail address info@lhv.ee.
  4. We will let you know when everything is in order with the submitted residency form.

Since 22.01.2016, the residency form is compulsory when trading US stocks at LHV Pank, and we advise you to complete it as soon as possible.
